Truro Board of Selectmen's Values

The Town of Truro holds the following values that inform the Board of Selectmen's approach to governance and municipal services. They are the guiding principles that drive all activities undertaken by any staff, volunteer, elected or appointed official in the Town of Truro. They embody their beliefs and their highest aspirations.

  • Excellence: They strive to provide the highest quality services that are responsive to the needs of Truro's residents and visitors. They engage in continuous learning, draw from past experience and strive to get it right the first time.

  • Integrity: They hold themselves to high ethical standards and commit to behave lawfully, respectfully, honesty and fairly.

  • Openness and Transparency: They commit to sharing information, working inclusively and to hold themselves accountable.

  • Historic and Environmental Protection: They work diligently to maintain the historic rural and coastal character and culture of Truro and to be string stewards of Truro's fragile environment.

  • Fiscal Integrity: They believe in sound fiscal policy and practice.

  • Diversity: They strive to create a community that values diversity and is available, accessible and open to all

  • Collaboration: They believe in working with others to solve problems and address community need both local and regionally.

Goals and Objectives

Each year, as a way of articulating policy and priorities, the Truro Board of Selectmen develop goals and objectives. These are intended to provide guidance and direction to the Town Manager and her appointees, the Police and Fire Chiefs, and all the Town's multi-member bodies.

The Goals and Objectives are divided into five board categories:

  • Town Services

  • Fiscal Management

  • Public Safety

  • Community Sustainability

  • Community Engagement & Governance



Truro Select Board 

In accordance with the Charter passed at ATE, April 22, 1992, Chapter 4-1-1, a (5)

there shall be a five-member Board of Selectmen, an elected position.

All requests must be in writing or on the appropriate application form(s), as applicable. For all other matters before the Board of Select Board a written request and pertinent information must be submitted no less than 7-days prior to the requested meeting date.
